You play by tapping a square and typing letters. Tap a cell to select it and the clue for that word appears. Type your answer, and use the on-screen keyboard or your device keyboard to enter letters.

Moving around the grid is quick once you know two things:

• Switching direction is done by tapping a selected square again, which flips between the across clue and the down clue that share it. This lets you attack a square from whichever word you know better.
• Crossing letters are your best friend. Every square belongs to both an across and a down word, so a letter you place in one immediately helps the other.

You finish a grid by filling every square with the correct letter. The crossings mean the puzzle checks itself as you go.

New grids unlock as you complete them, giving you a steady supply of fresh puzzles.

Tips

• Start with the clues you know instantly. Filling in the answers you are sure of first plants letters across the grid, and those letters make the harder crossing clues much easier to guess.
• Use the crossing letters. When a clue stumps you, look at the letters already placed by the words crossing it. Even one or two can turn an impossible clue into an obvious one.
• Think about the answer's length. The number of squares tells you how long the word is, which quickly rules out guesses that are too short or too long and points you toward the right one.
• Come back to tough clues later. There is no need to solve in order. Skipping a hard clue and returning once its crossings are filled is often the fastest way through.
• Watch for playful clues. Mini crosswords often hide light wordplay or a pun, so if a clue seems oddly worded, the answer may be a twist rather than the literal meaning.
• Trust short common words. In a small grid, the crossing words are usually everyday three and four letter words, so when in doubt, the ordinary answer is more likely than an exotic one.
